So I put everything I have into these stories and these characters. They wait two years between books, and I don’t want them to be disappointed. My readers are so loyal and wonderful and enthusiastic. It sounds trite, but I’m always looking to write a better book than the one before it. Now that you've achieved success, with more than 11 million copies of your books in print, what drives you as an author? The more that responses vary, the more I feel I have captured the shades of gray that make relationships complicated. I want readers to come away with different feelings, based on their own life experiences and their own take on the characters. And I’m OK with it if some readers don’t approve. When an outlaw attempts to gain godlike powers by killing off other versions of himself throughout different universes to absorb their energy, two agents are sent to capture him before he can. There are a lot of examples of that throughout the book. I wanted to explore the idea of an unconventional love and how much society dictates what we think of being an acceptable love. Any concern that readers might find her feelings for him to be, well, creepy?
